FOR FUCKING REAL, when someone cuts another person out of their life FOR THEIR OWN WELL-BEING AND MENTAL HEALTH, they are not “punishing” the other person, they are not trying to make the other person feel bad, they are making THEIR OWN DECISIONS which they have the agency to make

Every abuser I’ve ever cut out of my life has whined and cried that I was “punishing” or “guilt tripping” them, every single one has told me they would self-harm or kill themselves as a result of the cut-off, every single one, and you know what, that just CONFIRMS to me that I made the right decision. CONFIRMS to me that this other person does not value my well-being over their “right” to do whatever they want to me.

My right to cut people out of my life is sacred and absolute. My right to dissociate myself from abusers and just plain unhealthy people who bring me down is 100% and irrevocable. I have cut off huge swathes of people, I have cut out people who were lovers and best friends, I have cut out blood family, yes, I can cut you out too, I will cut you out if I feel that’s best for my own health and comfort. And if the thought of my agency bothers you, we shouldn’t be friends. If my autonomy upsets you, we are not a good match. If my independence makes you insecure, I don’t want to know you anyhow, and fuck you if you say I owe you smiles or goodwill or being on speaking terms or friendship or sex or anything beyond letting you mind your own business and me mind mine. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you, I do not have to be your friend. No one does. Friendship is a gift, not an obligation.
